By the book: school's in session for Florida show attendees

Pool & Spa News, Jan 31, 2005 by Margi Millunzi

Continuing its emphasis on education, the Florida Pool & Spa Show will feature more than 55 courses at this year's event. The array of business and technical seminars will allow attendees to brush up on the basics or tackle advanced topics of interest.

Course subjects run the gamut, from relationship marketing to understanding the latest in pool hydraulics. To accommodate the full education schedule, the show now features an extra day of classes on Thursday.

Education is crucial for Florida's pool and spa professionals, say show organizers. In fact, every two years, the state's licensed industry members must take 14 hours of continuing-education courses approved by the Florida Construction industry Licensing Board. Thus, many of the show's seminars are designed to fulfill this requirement.

Participants' CE hours must include one hour in each of the following subjects: business practices, workers' compensation and workplace safety. Many of the seminars offered here meet this requirement. To help identify these courses, each is listed with its applicable subject.

Organizers warn that courses fill up quickly, so preregistration is advised. For more information on the seminars, CILB requirements and fees, or to register, visit www.fpsaonline.org.
