Bosch offers new batteries: BlueCore batteries avoid heat problems to last longer
Tools of the Trade, Sept-Oct, 2005 by Katy Tomasulo
Bosch recently unveiled its BlueCore nicad battery technology and faster chargers. According to the company, BlueCore batteries feature advanced cooling rods between each pack's individual cells that absorb and dissipate the heat that can cause damage over time. A sensor within the battery measures internal conditions and communicates those conditions to the charger, which can then optimize energy flow and maximize charge capacity. The new technologies extend battery life by up to 50 percent, Bosch says.
The company's new dual-and single-bay chargers charge batteries in 30 minutes. "The big thing we hear from pros, says Jeff Wilkison, director of Bosch cordless power tools, "... [is that] they want faster charge times; they want to be able to take a quick break and be able to get a battery charged during lunch."
The new batteries and chargers are interchangeable with the company's existing products--BlueCore batteries work in existing Bosch tools and chargers, and the chargers will charge existing Bosch batteries in 30 minutes.
