To the editor - Letter to the Editor
Japan, Inc., Nov, 2003 by Steve Mollman
Dear Mr. Kelts,
I've never met you, but you're doing a brilliant job in picking interesting topics and putting together solid articles. J@pan Inc has to be one of the coolest, most unique publications anywhere. I feel a strong presence of curiosity and intelligence behind the magazine, though I'm making my judgments based on the online versions. (I can't seem to find it on the shelves here in Singapore, where I'm based now.)
I can't tell you how glad I am to see J@pan Inc going strong, at least editorially. Makes me proud to have been on the original team, and proud to list the magazine on my resume. I hope that behind the scenes things aren't too awful, as they usually are at magazines I especially hope the church/state divide, which I worked so hard to create and fortify, remains in place.
That's important. I just left as chief editor of PC Magazine Singapore, only two months after I launched the title, because they tried to blur that line. Nothing is more important to the long-term survival and credibility of a magazine than editorial integrity. The PC Magazine Singapore folks are about to get an earful on that matter from the powers in New York who licensed the title to them (thanks to some back-and-forth between the US version's chief editor and yours truly).
You're doing a great job. I look forward to future issues of both the newsletters and the online version of the magazine. I'm quite the big fan.
Regards,
--Steve Mollman
