AFC is gussying up its UniversalDSL product line with the release of a new AccessMAX ADSL2 plug-in card. Over a single copper pair, each card can simultaneously supply six ports of ADSL (up to 24 Mbps) and POTS services. The ADSL2 card can provide bit rates of up to 24 Mbps in the downstream and over 1 Mbps in the upstream, which is ideally suited to support the triple play nirvana. It can support ATM over TDM and Native ATM connections as well as metallic tip-ring access for loop testing with the MTU (metallic test unit) plug-in card. By utilizing a more efficient design and power-saving modes available with the new ADSL2 standard, carriers can lower opex expenses while allowing for greater port densities in both CO and RT applications. In addition to having full compliance with the G.992.5 standards, the ADSL2 card is fully compliant with the ITU-T G.992.3 (full rate ADSL2) standard, and is backward compatible with ADSL ITU-T G.992.1 (full rate ADSL), G.992.2 (G.lite) and T1.413-(full rate ADSL) standards. The new card can also support RE-ADSL2 (reach-extended ADSL2). Environmentally hardened for RT deployments, the Access-MAX DMAX shelf, when configured with the ADSL2 card, can provide 120 lines per shelf.
