For ILECs to surpass the cable operator's triple play service set, they will need more than just fat, dumb pipes. CoSine thinks it has the solution--incorporating two new service-centric BRAS features called VSI (virtual subscriber identity) and VM (virtualized multicast) on its IPSX 9500 and 3500 IP Service Processing Switches. By integrating VSI and VM onto the ISPX, service providers can offer both "Anywhere Services" and "Open Content Distribution." When combined with Virtualized Multicast, Open Content Distribution, which enables an operator to make content distribution available to a broader array of content providers, transforms a carrier's network into a broadcast mechanism for video and real-time services. Open Content Distribution enables operators to combine Virtualized Multicast with a managed VPN to offer content providers simultaneous broadband video networks operating independently from one another. With VSI, the IPSX creates a dynamic virtual instance of the customer's preferences that can be reached using any broadband access method--computer, wireless phone or hot spot connection. Both products will be available in Q2.
