IMS: a new spin on convergence: wireless and wireline carriers seek the "eBay" of flexible, responsive user experience

Telecommunications Americas, March, 2005 by Sean Buckley

They are currently defining the PacketCable 2.0 work plan, and while I would not go so far as to say it's a done deal, there's a consideration that they would like to leverage the IMS work and how it applies on the cable network. From a standards feature perspective, you already have a built-in benefit to the PTTS and ILECs with mobile carriers based on both history and current architecture. CableLabs has come behind it and said we are not going to let you guys slip by and paint ourselves out of the convergence architecture. You're setting up IMS as the common theme and point between the different architectures and industry segments to enable convergence."
