Session border control
Telecommunications Americas, July-August, 2004
Acme Packet
Acme Packet is beefing up its SBC (session border controller) prowess for the Tier 1 carrier market with its Net-Net PAC sets. A pack of up to nine 1U Net-Net SBCs perform as one logical session border controller, all in only 9RU of space. Each Net-Net PAC shares common configuration elements, including VLANs, realms, session agents/groups, routing policy and management across all the pack members. Claiming an advantage over chassis-based packaged solutions, the Net-Net PAC allows a service provider to grow a single 1U Net-Net SD (session director) to a pack of eight using the Net SR (session router) for SIP-based load balancing to ensure optimum performance and system failure protection. In terms of capacity, the Net-Net PAC is no slouch; it supports 256,000 simultaneous sessions/calls, 1024 VLANS, 800,000 endpoint registrations, 256,000 hosted NAT traversal registrations and 16-Gbps throughput.
