General Bandwidth has debuted the latest software release for its G6 VoIP Media Gateway designed to comply with CableLabs' PacketCable specifications. This latest software release of the G6 VoIP Media Gateway has been tested with leading CMS (call management servers) and softswitches to ensure widespread interoperability and a rich feature set of traditional and next-generation telephony services. In addition to supporting CMS interoperability, the G6 platform supports signaling (IPSec) and bearer traffic (AES) security, MO and MF trunks for enhanced 911 and operator services, and new low-bit-rate codecs (G.729). With a capacity to scale from 2000 to 28,000 subscribers per chassis, the G6 VoIP Media Gateway also supports all voice service architectures, whether centralized or distributed. As a standalone media gateway, the G6 can be placed at the network edge for local PSTN interconnection. This design also allows geographic centralization of expensive CMS and peripheral resources, simplifying service management for cost-effective voice over cable deployments.
