Keeping its hand in the SONET game while recognizing Ethernet services as the future area for carrier growth, White Rock Networks has added a multiservice optical access platform to its transport product family. The VLX2006, which White Rock dubs the industry's lowest cost (under $10K), OC-48 SONET-based optical access platform, is designed for the delivery of both native DS1/DS3 and Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet services in a carrier-class, environmentally hardened package. The VLX2006 also offers fully protected Ethernet ports for the transport of business-critical traffic. Each GigE fiber interface can support subscribed customer rates from 512 kbps to 1 Gbps allowing the carrier to sell customers just the amount of bandwidth they need today with the ability to scale as their needs grow--without the carrier making a site visit. The VLX2006 is fully compatible with White Rock's VLX2020 OC-48/OC-192 SONET transport platform, which is also being enhanced to add matching Layer 2 Ethernet switching capabilities. The VLX2006 is available in mid-August.
