Richardson, Texas-based Valere Power, many of whose founders came from traditional outside plant powering outfits, is taking a new approach to power distribution. With its expandable DC power distribution system, Valere claims that it can cut power-related costs for both remote broadband RT cabinet deployments and wireless base station locations. Key to the Integrated Power System product is Valere's patented power conversion technology that is said to be 50 percent smaller than competing products. The system emits 35 percent less heat than other systems, thus reducing energy, cooling, management and maintenance expenses that can save carriers an estimated $4,000 for typical locations.

Specifically, the Integrated Power System converts AC power into either from Lucent. The 5E-XC remote line unit can provide various features such as emergency standalone, allowing the unit to switch 911 and intra-community calls in the event of a disruption to the host switch. Along with primary services, customers deploying the VCDX can take advantage of adding on 5E-XC elements to provide IP-based services such as IP Centrex and Internet call waiting.
