Clear and Sorrento Networks partner to offer service providers a complete metro network management solution

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, March 7, 2003

Clear, a supplier of optical, broadband and digital network management software, and Sorrento Networks announced their global partnership to deliver service providers a reliable, proactive optical network operations management solution by addressing the unique challenges facing network operations centers (NOCs). Through this partnership, Clear's Clearview network management system is pre-certified for interoperability with Sorrento's TeraManager, a robust carrier-class element management system providing fault, configuration, performance and security (FCPS) capabilities for Sorrento's GigaMux DWDM platform. By integrating with service providers' inventory systems, the Clearview and TeraManager combined solution provides the following advantages for GigaMux customers:

- Customer network management: allowing service providers' customers to manage their network through a web-based application;

- Service level management: enabling service providers to understand and prove QoS level to meet service level agreements (SLA);

- Performance management: reviewing network performance for service providers and providing error details over periods of time;

- Circuit level customer correlation: helping service providers quickly understand how faults affect their customers, allowing them to deliver higher quality of service (QoS);

- Fault visualization: allowing service providers to visually track the network at both the circuit and topology levels, increasing NOC efficiency and lowering mean time to repair (MTTR); and

- Fault (network) sectionalization: providing service providers the ability to view every segment between circuits.

These additional management capabilities present service providers an opportunity to significantly reduce operational expenses and increase efficiencies while improving customer retention. The joint solution is fully tested and certified, thereby maximizing customer confidence and satisfaction before deployment.
