CableRunner rules the sewers

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, March 21, 2003

CableRunner North America, LLC, a public/private business venture part owned and operated by the City of Vienna, Austria, Water and Sewer Department, a fiber optic infrastructure provider, announced that the company's new SewerLine Flexible system's advanced technology expedites the building of private, secure backbone and access fiber optic infrastructures. This presents a new business model that addresses the needs of homeland security by permitting governments to assert ownership of critical infrastructure without relying on private telecoms as a sole source provider. The Flexible system is quickly installed in both man and non-man accessible existing city infrastructures without the drawbacks inherent to conventional fiber optic deployment and at a fraction of the cost.

Offering maximum flexibility, the Flexible system is easily scalable, upgradeable and interchangeable. CableRunner technology is already being utilized for sharing critical governmental information in cities worldwide including the City of Vienna, Austria, home of UNO-City - the seat of the IAEO (International Atomic Energy Organization), the UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and the OPEC (Organization for Petrol Exporting Countries).
