CommScope introduces new line of LightScope ZWP fiber optic cables

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, June 7, 2002

CommScope announced the introduction of its new line of LightScope ZWP fiber optic cables for the broadband communications market. LightScope ZWP cable offers increased useable bandwidth by eliminating the E-band (1360- 1460 nm) water peak while retaining full backward compatibility with existing single mode products.

A 30 percent increase in available spectrum is accomplished through the elimination of the water peak, which is a condition that causes excess signal losses in the E-band. Through its relationship with OFS, CommScope has an ownership interest in one of the world's largest producers of optical fiber and cable and has access to a broad array of technologically advanced optical fibers, including the zero water peak optical fibers used in the production of the LightScope ZWP family of products.
