Tellabs announces scalable Ethernet-over-SONET virtual concatenation solution

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, June 7, 2002

Tellabs announced it is adding Ethernet-over-SONET virtual concatenation (EoS-VC) to its new Tellabs 6400 metro transport switching series products. The technology, which resizes SONET channels to more efficiently transport data and optimize networks, enables carriers to support up to five times more data traffic on their networks without stranded bandwidth or the added cost of an overlay network.

Prior to the development of this new feature, service providers were unable to efficiently provide capacity for Ethernet services, stranding as much as 75 percent of the bandwidth. The Ethernet-over-SONET capability is included in the Tellabs 6400 feature package 2.0 and is now available.
