BT Group invests in infrastructure in U.K. network

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, June 18, 2004

> BT Group plans to transform its U.K. network. The company will test the economics associated with the deployment of fiber optic cable in the local access network. Later this year, BT will start diverting voice calls between network nodes to the 21CN specific IP network. The company investments in the infrastructure may result in increasing cash savings of nearly [pounds sterling]1 billion per annum after four years.
