Neptec Optical Solutions launches its new Telcordia-compliant EZFieldMate Field Termination Kit

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, June 18, 2004

Neptec Optical Solutions Inc has released the EZFieldMate(TM) Field Termination Kit, a portable, self-contained tool kit that enables a field technician to create factory-quality optical fiber connector terminations in the field under harsh conditions with little training. It is the first and only field kit to produce optical terminations in compliance with Telcordia GR-1081-CORE, the Generic Requirements for Field Mountable Optical Fiber Connectors and GR-326-CORE, the Generic Requirements for Single-Mode Optical Connectors and Jumper Assemblies.

What the EZFieldMate(TM) Kit offers is the ability to cost-effectively provide a high-quality, Telcordia-compliant solution for field termination requirements. The current FTTX initiatives are one of the key factors that are driving the need for field terminations. Millions of homes are being passed each year to bring fiber to the home, requiring literally hundreds of millions of optical terminations to be made in the field.

The EZFieldMate(TM) Kit contains all the necessary tools and supplies to prepare and terminate fiber optic cables in the field in harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, remote locations, or wherever else an optical connections needs to be made. Both large and small form factor connectors are supported, with PC and APC polishes. The kit houses the tools, consumables, battery-operated oven, cleaners and scope required to make and inspect factory-quality connectors in about 10 minutes. The key to the EZFieldMate(TM) Kit is a unique oven/epoxy system. This fast-heating, battery-operated, low-power-drawing oven heats to 140[degrees]C and cures the epoxy in 3 1/2 minutes. Then the hand polishing process simply removes the excess epoxy and polishes to a factory-quality standard.
