BTI Photonic systems delivers new benefits for optical networks

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, June 18, 2004

BTI Photonic announced a new suite of capabilities available with the latest release of its Netstender(TM) platform. Netstender 2.1 now offers advanced features that simplify connecting sites within optical networks, which plays a critical role in deploying cost-effective converged multi-service networks.

With the introduction of Netstender 2.1, the value of the platform moves beyond link extension to the full photonic layer, enabling new applications such as capacity extension, service overlay for converged networks, and "drop-in" multi-site connectivity.

A complete range of mux/demux and OADM modules for the Netstender enable new services and optical connections to be deployed without lighting additional fiber. These new passive modules are easily configured within the same compact platform as other Netstender modules.

BTI also introduced wideband CWDM amplification modules, allowing service providers to save costs by deploying economical CWDM optics on existing service platforms for metro core and regional applications.

The new Optical Service Channel (OSC) options solidify BTI's philosophy of unified management, ensuring a simple fit with both systems vendor management systems and service provider operational systems.

Netstender 2.1 also added single-channel/sub-band amplifiers for cost optimization. These amplifiers are for use in single-channel or low-channel-count optical links and in single-channel point-to-point link extension for SONET and Ethernet-based transport networks.

New Netstender Features:

--Low-cost CWDM line amplifiers

--CWDM optical add/drop multiplexer

--DWDM optical add/drop multiplexer

--DWDM mux/demux circuit pack

--CWDM DWDM splitter combiner

--OSC Optical Supervisory Channel

--OSC Coupler/Splitter

--Netstender 1020 new compact passive shelf

--CWDM mux/demux circuit packs for combining and splitting wavelengths to allow transmission over a single fiber
