Time Warner Telecom delivers Ethernet service to Boise School District

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, August 1, 2003

Time Warner Telecom announced the award and installation of new 20 Mbps Ethernet service for the Boise School District, Idaho's second largest. This installation increases Boise Schools' Internet access by four times. Time Warner Telecom is delivering the 20 Mbps high speed Ethernet Internet Service (EIS) over a 100 Mbps Ethernet facility for future scalability. Time Warner Telecom is offering EIS as part of its School's Out promotion that gives schools the ability to pay less for reduced Internet usage during off peak summer months. Boise Schools signed a renewable year-to-year contract with Time Warner Telecom.

The Time Warner Telecom Ethernet service installs directly to the Boise School District Service Center and then is accessed by the district's 52 schools over its own fiber network. Time Warner Telecom has activated Ethernet Internet Service (EIS) to several other Boise companies. It is the only Boise service provider offering EIS over its own 100-route mile fiber network with local Ethernet capabilities. Time Warner Telecom has built its Boise fiber network into 13 commercial buildings so far this year, with plans to extend into 17 more by year's end. Cisco, Boise School's infrastructure provider, is installing routers and switches into all 52 schools to support the Time Warner Telecom Ethernet Internet application.

Ethernet provides unique benefits to businesses and organizations searching for greater value, affordable Internet and data connections, easy upgrades and simple customer management of a proven communications transmission technology--Ethernet.
