Fiber Optics Weekly Update, August 30, 2002
Xanoptix Inc. and Emerson Network Power's Connectivity Division announced the completion of a licensing agreement for the use of Xanoptix's high fiber count MT-based ferrule in Emerson's fiber optic cable assemblies. This agreement will allow the companies to offer more comprehensive cabling solutions and adds Emerson to the list of Xanoptix's licensing partners for MT connector technology.

Xanoptix and Emerson are extending the capabilities of MT-style connectors beyond 12 and 24 fibers, making configurations up to 72 and higher possible. This significant increase in fibers per single connector results in significant space savings and reduced installation times and costs. Xanoptix's higher density version of the field proven MT ferrule is at the nucleus of these connectors. MT-style connectors meet the increasing demand for parallel optical data transmission by providing a high fiber count in a dense package via a two-dimensional array configuration of the fiber holes.
High-density MT based fiber cable applications include: parallel optic transceiver interconnection, parallel optical interconnect between circuit boards, patch panels interconnects, miniature interconnection for OE modules, trunk cable applications, optical switch interconnections, optical back planes, fiber aggregation for Storage Area Networks (SAN), and SONET (Synchronous Optical NETwork) Very Short Reach (VSR) applications.
