Fibertech Networks completes Columbus, Ohio fiber optic network

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, Sept 13, 2002

Fibertech Networks, L.L.C., a builder of metro-area dark fiber networks within mid-size US cities, announced the completion of a 70-mile fiber optic network located in the central business district and other suburban areas of Columbus, Ohio. Fibertech's diverse route, "open-access" networks allow for numerous communications and Internet companies to offer facilities-based services. Its Columbus network connects strategic routes, passing key corporate centers, major switching hubs and other high data aggregation points throughout the city.

In addition to communications carriers, Fibertech is also seeing growing interest from direct end users such as large corporate, education, healthcare and government agencies looking to manage their own network facilities. The company builds "dark" fiber optics directly to locations and the customer connects their own electronics to "light" their own fibers on the network.

In addition to Columbus, Fibertech has completed construction of metro-area networks in Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo and Albany, NY, Indianapolis and Hartford, Conn., and its first metro rings in Pittsburgh, PA and Providence, RI. The company expects to complete construction in Worcester and Springfield, MA, New Haven, CT, and Binghamton, NY, over the next several months. In addition, Fibertech has engineering work progressing in 10 other cities.
