Corning unveils multimode fiber

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, Sept 13, 2002

Corning unveiled the latest addition to its optical fiber portfolio, a 10 Gbps-capable multimode fiber for high-speed, high-density applications. Corning InfiniCor SXi fiber offers superior bandwidth for short-reach interconnect applications while achieving lower overall systems cost. InfiniCor SXi fiber is designed to provide an upgrade path to conquer bandwidth-intensive applications where data converges for routing, switching and storage.

It is a 50-micron multimode fiber enabling 10 Gbps transmission over 150 meters in the 850 nanometer (nm) wavelength window, and is designed for use with low-cost, 850 nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) to enable a cost-effective, high-bandwidth solution.
