SureWest Communications selects Allied Telesyn Equipment for fiber to the home services

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, Sept 26, 2003

In its most significant North American customer win for fiber to the home (FTTH) products to date, Allied Telesyn, a global leader in Ethernet networking solutions for the access edge, announced that SureWest Communications has agreed to purchase 5,000 of its RG-223 Broadband Residential Gateways and single fiber FS237 media converters. SureWest serves the metropolitan Sacramento area with advanced voice, data, and video services, and is rapidly installing a fiber network to deliver a triple play of services over one network to its customers.

The first of Allied Telesyn's home gateway products for the North American market, the RG-223 Residential Gateway distributes traditional voice and multiple IP-based services throughout a home, including broadband Internet access, voice over IP (VoIP), broadcast television, and video on demand. The RG-223 features two analog phone ports, three 10/100 Ethernet LAN ports, and supports IGMP for secure and efficient multicast video.
