Alcatel receives fiber contract

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, Sept 17, 2004

Alcatel announced that it has been awarded a contract to design and supply the local authority of the Moselle French department with an optical fiber communication network.

The contract, valued at more than $67 million, was awarded to the consortium formed with Sogea, subsidiary of Vinci. The deployment, which will connect 67 NRA, 96 schools, and 58 economic development zones, is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2006.

Alcatel, with Sogea, will be in charge of the design, building, and installation of the entire optical fiber communication network. The communication network will be 900km long and will cover the entire Moselle department. This network will make it possible to offer high-speed services in small towns beyond major cities.
