Loop Telecom chooses Redux Communications for Cisco-compliant 'Mini-Jumbo' packet transport

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, Oct 17, 2003

Loop Telecommunications International Inc. (Loop Telecom), a supplier of telecommunications access equipment, announced that it has chosen Redux Communications' silicon chip solution for high speed bridging of Ethernet. Redux's product, the RS-120, will be used in Loop Telecom's O-series Fiber Optical Mux for building fiber-based E1 and Ethernet networks. Loop chose Redux's RS-120 for its ability to bridge any type of Ethernet traffic at 100 Mbps wire-speed, including 'Mini-Jumbo' traffic generated by Cisco switches.

Mini-Jumbo packets--also referred to as 'Baby Giant Frames'--are increasingly used in Cisco-based high performance VLAN applications. The RS-120 chip by Redux, takes Ethernet packets and converts them at high speed (100Mbps) into Telecom-standard HDLC or TDM bitstream. The RS-120 chip is based on Redux's wire-speed architecture, first introduced in its RX-100 traffic processor, with flexible, firmware-based configuration. Redux has recently released the RS-125, which adds more functionality to this low cost solution.
