E20 introduces 10-Gig XFP transceiver

Fiber Optics Weekly Update, Feb 7, 2003

E2O Communications Inc. has introduced a 850nm XFP transceiver for use in 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel applications. The EM1053, is a VCSEL-based 850nm, 10 Gbps serial optical transceiver which supports up to 300m of high bandwidth multimode (MM) fiber transmission, and 82m of the standard 50 mm MM fiber transmission.

This XFP transceivers features a serial 10Gb/s XFI electrical interface, which eliminates the need for electrical mux/demux chips inside the module. This results in significant space, power and cost savings for datacom and telecom system manufacturers. The transceiver uses standard LC duplex optical receptacles and feature a 30-pin hot pluggable interface. The XFP's small footprint and low power dissipation (-1.7 watts 850nm) enables the highest board density applications in the industry. These factors, in addition to its protocol independence, provide the lowest overall system cost solution for OEMs.
