BH&HS President Recovering from Heart Surgery and Stroke

Dan Gentry Kent, BH&HS president, suffered a heart attack on July 4, had heart-bypass surgery on August 8, arrived home on August 13, had a stroke on August 17, and continues to recuperate. His address is 6408 Wrigley Way, Fort Worth, TX 76133.

The Texas Baptist Historical Collection

Mercer Launches New Center for Baptist Studies

The Center for Baptist Studies at Mercer University launched its operation on July 1, 2001. Walter B. Shurden, member of the BH&HS Council of Advisors, serves as executive director of the new center. The center anticipates conducting conferences for ministers and laity, providing an annual meeting of Baptist scholars, developing a Young Scholars Program in Baptist Studies, and initiating a mini-sabbatical program in Baptist studies for Baptist ministers.

Baylor Creates Program in Baptist Studies

Baylor University made available to students in the fall of 2001 a new Program in Baptist Studies created by Baylor's Department of Religion in 2000. The purpose of this program is "to provide opportunities for instruction, research, dialogue and cooperation, dissemination, and publication of scholarship relating to the people called Baptists worldwide."

Robert E. Johnson Installed at Central Seminary

Central Baptist Theological Seminary installed Robert E. Johnson as associate professor of church history and missiology on August 22, 2001.

BH&HS Meeting in 2002

The BH&HS will hold its next annual meeting at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee, on June 20-22, 2002. Please mark your calendar.
