Mobile Internet, The, April, 2004

D & E Communications has signed a five-year contract with wireless service provider T-Mobile USA to transport voice and data in the central Pennsylvania region. D & E, an integrated communications provider, will supply T-1 lines to approximately 240 cell tower sites throughout central Pennsylvania. These connections will transport T-Mobile voice and data traffic through "points of presence" in Lancaster, Reading, Harrisburg, and York, and the communications will then be sent on to a mobile switching center in West Norriton, PA. Under the contract, D & E will provide T-1 lines to cell tower sites in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, York, Lancaster, Lebanon, Berks, Perry, Mifflin, Juniata, Franklin, and Fulton counties.

D & E provides telecommunication services to more than 175,000 lines in central and eastern Pennsylvania. Founded in 1911 and based in Lancaster County, D & E is the nation's 19th-largest independent telephone company and also offers long-distance, Internet, and voice and data network systems integration services. The Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania named D & E as its 2002 Technology Company of the Year, and the "Central Penn Business Journal" recently ranked it as the region's second-fastest-growing company.
