Advantage selects Grayson Wireless to supply 911 caller location system - Applications - Brief Article

Allen Telecom's Grayson Wireless Division announced that Advantage Cellular has signed an agreement to purchase Grayson's Geometrix wireless 911 caller-location system. The Geometrix system will allow Advantage to provide locations of wireless 911 callers on their-six county network in Tennessee. Advantage Cellular customers will be able to use their existing handsets and current 911 calling procedures. To maintain caller privacy, Geometrix systems are designed to provide location information only when a caller initiates a 911 call.

The network-based Geometrix system is compatible with Advantage Cellular's TDMA (digital) and AMPS (analog) network technologies and existing customer handsets. Grayson will be Advantage Cellular's exclusive supplier of E911 caller location systems.

Grayson Wireless will install Geometrix system components at Advantage cellular network base stations (cell sites) to determine the location of callers who access 911 over the Advantage network. The Geometrix system will automatically locate and provide the caller position information to 911 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).

Advantage's Geometrix location system is upgradeable to be compatible with 3G network technology and handsets. Advantage Cellular will have the option to purchase such upgrades to accommodate its future requirements.
