Mobile Internet, The, May, 2002

Sierra Wireless and Bell Mobility announced the commercial availability of the AirCard 555 Wireless Network Card on Bell Mobility's next generation (1X) network. When inserted into a PDA or laptop, the AirCard 555 wireless network card allows Canadian wireless users to have faster access to corporate data, e-mail, Intranets and each other on Canada's first 1X voice and data network.

The AirCard 555 offers wireless users reliable high-speed access and always-on connectivity on Bell Mobility's new 1X network. The 1X network is capable of supporting wireless data speeds of up to 144Kbps and will deliver cruising speeds up to 86Kbps, as much as five times faster than previously available. This means that customers are now capable of wirelessly downloading a page of text in three seconds or a digital color photograph in just five seconds. The new Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 is a wide area wireless network interface card (NIC) that delivers all the benefits of the 1X network, and also works in both 800 MHz and 1.9 GHz CDMA digital, giving users access to Bell Mobility's national digital coverage area. With the addition of voice capabilities via a headset (included with purchase) and two-way text messaging, Bell Mobility customers can now place voice calls or send text messages directly from the Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 when it is inserted in a PDA or laptop. The AirCard 555 is currently available through Bell Mobility and Bell World store locations.
