Telecom sector continues to grow in 2003 - Market Intelligence - Brief Article

The telecom sector of Ecuador grew consistently so far this year according to a study published by the Superintendence of Telecommunications. The number of mobile subscribers grew 11.7% increasing from 1.5 million in December 2002 to 1.74 million in April 2003. At the end of April the number of fixed line customers reached 1.45 million compared to 1.3 million one year ago, representing a 9.85% increase.

The Internet sector also showed healthy signs of improvement growing from 90,643 in April 2002 to 119,633 in April of this year. Finally the number of trunking customers increased 44.2% with 15,579 customers.
