Most profitable calls come from fixed to mobile - Market Intelligence - Brief Article

Mobile Internet, The, June, 2003

According to a study conducted by Banco Wiese Sudameris the biggest source of revenue for mobile operators in Peru comes from calls made from fixed lines to mobile phones. The second largest source of revenue is from calls made between mobile phones, especially between two customers of the same mobile operator due to the intensive marketing campaigns.

Mobile to fixed line calls does not represent much business for the mobile operators. Pre-paid customers are expected to fuel the future growth of the sectors. At the end of last year Peru had 1.76 million prepaid customers. Telecom Italia Mobile, BellSouth and Telefonica's prepaid customers represented 89%, 81%, and 78%, respectively, of their customer base.
