Sprint certifies first fully rugged voice- and data-capable mobile devices for use on the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network

Sprint announced certification of two new industrial handheld computers from Symbol Technologies Inc., The Enterprise Mobility Company(TM), for use on the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network. The Symbol MC9000-K and MC9000-S are the first set of Sprint-certified rugged devices to offer both voice and data services. As part of a Sprint Business Solutions Program (BSP) membership agreement, Sprint and Symbol will work jointly to co-market and sell the two new handheld computers through the business sales channels of both companies.

The Symbol MC9000-S and MC9000-K are designed to help enterprises seamlessly capture, move and manage information at the point of decision to power mission-critical enterprise mobility applications and improve asset utilization in the transportation, route accounting/direct store delivery, field service, and field sales/market segments. These new industrial mobile computers, designed to Symbol's signature ruggedized specifications and powered by Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition, boast seamless Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and CDMA wireless networking for advanced mobile applications.

The Sprint PCS Business Solutions Program was designed to provide significantly more opportunities and flexibility for Sprint business customers to acquire and deploy core wireless data solutions, including wireless email and connection cards, as well as more complex offerings that typically satisfy the needs of vertical markets. Sprint PCS Business Solutions Program members include leading system integrators, independent software vendors, original equipment manufacturers, distributors, and value-added resellers in the IT industry.
