On par in Parkland - In the Pipeline

South Florida CEO, Dec, 2003

In what appears to be one of the last golf communities under development in Broward comes WCI's Parkland Golf & Country Club. The gated community is situated on 800 acres just west of University Drive in Parkland. In keeping with the city's motto of "Environmentally Proud," WCI (now in the land development stage) is working with Audubon International, an Albany-based not-for-profit organization that promotes environmental stewardship. Under their agreement terms, WCI will adhere to the principles of sustainable development set by Audubon International. These include: preserving topographic and geological site features; protecting food, water and shelter areas for wildlife; adopting a water conservation program; and incorporating energy efficient technologies for heating, cooling and lighting. The 700 single family homes will be limited to one per acre, while 120 condominiums will flank an 18-hole, par-72 golf course, the first in Broward to be designed by Greg Norman. Once completed, the property can be certified as an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary Golf Course. The community, with homes from $350,000 to $3 million, is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2009.
