Ryder to stay - Big Deals - Ryder System - Brief Article

South Florida CEO, Jan, 2003

* After spending more than a year deliberating whether it would remain in Miami-Dade County or move north to Broward, Ryder System decided to build a new 230,000-square-foot world headquarters in west Miami-Dade in the Beacon Station business park. Miami-Dade County government and The Beacon Council, Miami-Dade's economic development enterprise, developed a set of incentives in order to retain Ryder, including tax refunds and permitting assistance for the new headquarters.

The Beacon Council said the retention of Ryder System, a $5 billion company, translates into the preservation of about 800 jobs and the injection of $40 million in new capital investment into the community. The company's new headquarters will be built by Flagler Development Corp.
