Tri-Rail to expand - Big Deals

South Florida CEO, June, 2002

Tri-Rail, South Florida's commuter train system, announced it is adding a second track to the train's route, which spans 72 miles from West Palm Beach to Miami. Construction on the $456 million project -- paid for by the State and the Federal governments -- is expected to begin in July and be finished in 2005.

When the improvements are complete, Tri-Rail will be able to run trains every 20 minutes during rush hour, eliminating delays that occur when trains going in opposite directions must wait on side rails to let each other pass.
