June Wolfe - In Play

South Florida CEO, July, 2002

THE PLAYER: South Florida Manufacturing Association president June Wolfe. LATEST PLAY: Recently forged a partnership with the 42 year old SFMA and the South Florida chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives, a non-profit association whose members mentor and advise aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners.

"These folks can help manufacturers that are just starting out with a business plan or a marketing plan," Wolfe says. "These are things we don't do." The Pompano-based SFMA supports South Florida's manufacturing industry, doing training and consulting work. BACKGROUND: Originally from Pennsylvania with a background in public relations and health care (she did PR for a hospital in Ohio, where she lived until she moved to South Florida) Wolfe has run the SFMA for almost two decades. "The senior executive had just been let go when I came to work here," she says. "I wasn't in this industry but I didn't have a job and I was told to keep the doors open until they found another executive. That was 17 yea rs ago." AMBITION: "Call it my vision if you want," Wolfe says. "I want to make this association so important that every manufacturing company that's based here has to belong." Currently, the SFMA has less than 200 members. "We could have so many more."
