Life is a cabaret - Tourism

South Florida CEO, August, 2002

* Believe it or not, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau had nothing to do with the libretto or score for the new German stage musical "Miami Nights." But once the GMCVB heard about it, they jumped on the bandwagon. The romance about a dancer -- which does use music by current Miami resident Gloria Estefan and former Miami resident Madonna -- is now enjoying a run at the Capitol Theater in Dusseldorf.

With a captive audience of about 7,200 each week, the GMCVB partnered with the theater to offer patrons "Tropicool" drinks at a "Tropicool" bar before they enter the performance. The bureau also arranged a Miami Nights" win-a-trip-to-Miami contest with LTU airlines, which to being promoted in BWZ magazine (circ: 1.7 million) and BILD newspaper (circ: 4.4 million). As a final touch, the GMCVB will be hosting a team of German journalists in October for a week-long "Miami Nights" Miami Tour.
