* The Boca Raton Middle School won't be just another place where teenagers go to learn basic subjects like American history and algebra. The $20.7-million school, being built by Palm Beach Gardens-based Catalfumo Construction in the shell of the former IBM complex in Boca, will include a separate structure for a Safe Schools Center.

The center will teach educators from across the nation how to keep schools safe, based in part on a concept known as Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. The School District of Palm Beach County expects to generate $250,000 in annual profit by training teachers and administrators from around the country in subjects ranging from the use of video surveillance cameras to bullet-proofing classrooms.
