No sweat

South Florida CEO, July, 2004 by Barbara Perkins

Summertime assures South Florida of one thing: heat, and lots of it. If misery likes company, then the folks at Cincinnati-based Proctor & Gamble Inc. bring us good news. The company's Old Spice antiperspirant brand released its annual list of the nation's Top 100 sweatiest cities. Miami and West Palm Beach both improved their rankings. According to the report, Miami is No. 7 this year--down four notches from last year. West Palm Beach chilled too, moving down two notches to No. 8. The company bases its results on an arcane formula involving average body size, high temperature and relative humidity levels in the cities listed. Subjects are asked to walk around in the heat for an hour, after which Old Spice lab technicians swoop in and measure body moisture. Who are the sweatiest denizens? That would be the kind folk of El Paso, Texas, which knocked Phoenix off its sweaty perch.
