South Florida jewelry box - Real Estate in the Pipeline

South Florida CEO, August, 2003 by James Broida

With parts of South Florida called the Gold Coast and the Treasure Coast, the enduring popularity of jewelry-based names for real estate developments should surprise no one. Now, Emerald at Brickell joins the White, Blue and Green Diamonds, Platinum and Jade in the area's jewelry box of condominiums. Appropriately, green is the color of choice in Miami's Brickell financial district: Emerald will be going up not far from Fortune International's Jade. Among Emerald's sparkling amenities: floor-to-ceiling emerald glass windows, individual wine cellars and humidors, infinity-edge overflowing bathtubs, a rooftop pool, private cafe, feng shui meditation gardens and a dog walk. The 27-story tower's one-, two- and three-bedroom residences will range from 945 to 2,295 square feet, with a few penthouses boasting 12-foot ceilings. Brickell, long a hotspot of Miami-Dade luxury development, still hasn't slowed down; developer Sun Vest/Hamilton (a joint venture between Hollywood-based Sun Vest Resort Communities and Coral Gables-based Hamilton Investment Group) has already sold 48 of Emerald's 142 units. The price for this gem: from $255,000 to $1.35 million. Construction is expected to start in October, with completion in December 2005.
