Office depot news - Big Deals: Following the Money

South Florida CEO, Oct, 2002

National Car Rental Center no longer goes by that moniker. The arena where the Florida Panthers play is now called Office Depot Center, following the signing of a 10-year, $1.4 million per-annum deal between the team and the Delray Beach-based office-supply chain. National Car Rental System was paying $2.2 million annually, but the deal was nixed after National's parent company, Fort Lauderdale's ANC Rental, filed for bankruptcy in November.

In related news, Office Depot announced it will begin selling office products via online retailer Amazon.com. Office Depot will put more than 50,000 items on Amazon and manage fulfillment, while Amazon will handle payments. Office Depot has more than 820 stores in the US, and is traded on the NYSE under the ticker symbol ODP.
