Water wonderland - Real Estate In The Pipeline - Brief Article

South Florida CEO, Sept, 2003 by Barbara Perkins

With so much water around here, quite frankly we're wondering why there aren't more developments with water-esque monikers. In Miami Beach there's Aqua by Craig Robins, in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea there's AquAzul from The Related Group, and in Sunny Isles there's Acqualina by Williams Island developer Jules Trump.

Making the latest splash is Alaqua, a soon-to-be-built 193-unit project located in Aventura at NE 185th Street. The water-inspired development will naturally have the requisite private marina. Alaqua's location, however, suggests that "new urbanism" may be seeping into Aventura; situated on the water's edge, the property is strolling distance from Loehmann's Plaza and the planned Town Center. The mid-rise Mediterranean-style residences will range from 900 to 1,900 square feet, with prices from the upper $200,000s to the mid $400,000s. Speaking of water, all units will include roman tubs in the master baths as well as access to the property's oversized pool and heated spas. Orlando-based GDC Premier Communities of Florida is the developer. Look for the sales office to open in October and construction to begin in March.--BP
