Genesis Power to Advance Awhitu Peninsula Wind Farm Proposal
0 Comments | Renewable Energy Today, Sept 15, 2003
Genesis Power recently announced it has conducted 12 months of research indicating that the Awhitu Peninsula in New Zealand is "a reliable source of wind power for the next wind farm development for Genesis."
According to officials, Genesis plans to build a new 25-megawatt wind farm on the site, which is expected to generate enough energy to power approximately 12,000 homes.
Officials said the company expects to file a resource consent application with Franklin District Council in "late September." If consent is granted by the end of the year, officials noted that Genesis "will go out to tender for the generators in early 2004, with turbines operational in early 2005."

"Genesis is very aware of the environmental impacts and has commissioned reports outlining visual, noise and traffic assessments," said Genesis CEO Murray Jackson. "The tender documents will also specify any environmental constraints placed upon us as a result of the resource consents process."
