Nanosys, Inc. recently announced it has been awarded $2.2 million by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the first phase of a development program aimed at creating "flexible low cost solar cells" for military applications.
Nanosys said it plans to work with the University of California at Berkeley, Battelle Memorial Institute and SAIC on the program.
"Nanosys and its partners are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to work with DARPA on this important program," said Nanosys CEO Calvin Chow. "This program will assist us in developing solar cells with potential breakthrough cost and performance advantages that could have major impact on how energy is generated and the energy landscape in general."
