Toronto, Ontario-based environmental organization Pollution Probe recently released the results of a new poll conducted by Oraclepoll Research which reveal that 87 percent of Canadian voters support the use of renewable energy.

The group said the National Survey Report on Green Power found that "three-quarters of Canadians believe that it is very important for the federal and provincial governments to work together to develop green power in Canada over the next 20 years." Additionally, Pollution Probe said survey results indicate that Canadian residents are willing to pay extra for electricity generated using renewable resources, with 48 percent of respondents willing to pay an additional $5 per month and 60 percent willing to pay more than $2 per month.

In regard to the different types of renewable resources, the organization said 60 percent of respondents preferred "green power" sources, such as wind, solar, small hydropower and geothermal, while 20 percent preferred large hydropower projects, 15 percent preferred natural gas-fired power plants and five percent preferred nuclear power.
