Progress Energy Florida, together with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, recently unveiled a new four-kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic (PV) system at Lakewood High School in Pinellas County.

According to Progress Energy Florida, the PV installation is part of the SunSmart schools program, a statewide initiative to install 29 solar electric systems in schools throughout the state.

The company noted that it plans to partner with four other local Florida schools -- Nature Coast Technical in Brooksville; Winter Park 9th Grade Center in Winter Park; Lyman High School in Longwood; and Celebration School in Celebration -- to "install four-kW PV systems, provide industry expertise and contribute additional funding."
