Framatome ANP, Siemens to Build Nuclear Plant in Finland
0 Comments | Renewable Energy Today, Jan 9, 2004
Siemens AG recently announced that a consortium led by Framatome ANP, the joint venture of AREVA and Siemens, plans to construct a European pressurized water reactor (EPR) nuclear power plant in Olkiluoto, Finland.
According to Siemens, the 3-billion-euro (about $3.8-billion) Olkiluoto 3 project is designed for a generating capacity of 1,600 megawatts. Siemens noted that the plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2009.
"The [EPR] is certainly a milestone in the recent development of nuclear energy," said Siemens AG corporate executive committee member Uriel Sharef. "With placing the first order for an EPR, Finland paves the way for further projects and Siemens expects that the Finnish example will find followers in other countries as well."
