Alameda County, CA to Add New Solar Installations

Renewable Energy Today, March 29, 2004

The Alameda County, CA Board of Supervisors recently voted to have PowerLight Corporation add more than one megawatt (MW) in new solar power generating capacity at six different local sites.

The new solar power capacity, when added to the 1.18-MW solar array atop the roof of the Santa Rita Jail, will result in a total of 2.29 MW of solar power for the county.

"The decision to expand solar electric generation in Alameda County makes sense because the economics have made it such a compelling solution," said Alameda County supervisor Bail Steele. "The performance of our first major solar project at the Alameda County jail has exceeded expectations. Harnessing the sun's power to generate clean electricity is a good investment, financially and environmentally."
