GE Energy Contracted to Repower German Wind Farm
0 Comments | Renewable Energy Today, Nov 11, 2004
GE Energy announced last week it will replace seven turbines at the 14-year-old Windpark Hartmannshain in Germany under a new repowering contract.
Once completed, GE Energy said the repower is anticipated to triple the site's capacity from 2.5 to 7.5 megawatts.
GE is contracted to replace seven smaller wind turbines with four state-of-the-art 1.5-megawatt models.
"We are pleased to repower Germany's Windpark Hartmannshain," said GE Energy general manager for Europe, Herbert Peels. "The repowering potential for wind farms in Germany is enormous, with estimates ranging from 1,000 megawatts by 2010 to 4,000 megawatts of new capacity during the next decade."

The Hartmannshain repowering project began in late October and is expected to be completed in November 2004.
The contract also calls for GE Energy to install and maintain the turbines.
