CEC Provides Incentives to Local Schools for PV Installation

The California Energy Commission (CEC) recently announced plans to award 30 state schools $4.5 million in incentives to install their own solar photovoltaic (PV) systems of up to 30 kilowatts (kW), potentially harvesting a total of 700 kW statewide.

According to CEC, the recipients, which all reside within Pacific Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas and Electric company territory, will receive a $6.40-per-watt special rebate incentive.

CEC said the incentives, which are funded equally by the Commission's Emerging Renewables Program and the California attorney general's Alternative Energy Retrofit Account, are provided to schools that have initiated a board resolution indicating the readiness to build a PV system, including a signed contract with the retailer; maintained a previously installed energy-efficient lighting system; and prepared a supplementary solar energy and conservation curriculum.
